While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Dhul-Hulayfah in Tihamah, the people captured some camels and sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at the rear of the company, but those at the front hurried ahead, slaughtered the animals, and set up the cooking pots. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached them, he ordered that the pots be overturned. He then divided the spoils among them, equating ten sheep with one camel. While they were in this situation, one of the camels bolted. There were only a few horses among the company, so the people pursued it but it exhausted them. A man shot it with an arrow, and Allah brought it to a halt. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "These beasts have wild tendencies like the wild animals, so whichever of them gets away from you, deal with it in this manner."
