Some men from Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dragging a sheep of theirs that was the size of a young donkey. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "If only you had taken its hide."They replied, "It is dead carrion."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Water and qaraz leaves will purify it."
أخبرنا سليمان بن داود عن ابن وهب قال أخبرني عمرو بن الحارث والليث بن سعد عن كثير بن فرقد أن عبد الله بن مالك بن حذافة حدثه عن العالية بنت سبيع أن
أنه مر برسول الله ﷺ رجال من قريش يجرون شاة لهم مثل الحصان فقال لهم رسول الله ﷺ لو أخذتم إهابها قالوا إنها ميتة فقال رسول الله ﷺ يطهرها الماء والقرظ
Sourcing, [its chain of transmission is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Clothing, Chapter on the Hides of Dead Animals, no. 4126, from the hadith of Ibn Wahb, with this wording, and it is also in Sunan al-Kubra, no. 4574. Ibn Hibban, Hakim, and Ibn Sakan graded it sahih (Talkhis Habir 1/49).
