He met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage while he was mounted on his she-camel Adba. He approached him from one side and said, "Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, ask forgiveness for me."The Prophet replied, "May Allah forgive you all."Then he came to him from the other side, hoping to be singled out apart from the others, and said, "Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for me."The Prophet gestured with his hand and said, "May Allah forgive you all."A man from among the people then asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about the atirah and the faraah sacrifices?"He answered, "Whoever wishes may offer the atirah, and whoever wishes need not. Whoever wishes may offer the faraah, and whoever wishes need not. As for sheep, the udhiyah is required," and he closed his fingers, leaving only one extended.
أخبرنا سويد بن نصر قال أنبأنا عبد الله يعني ابن المبارك عن يحيى وهو ابن زرارة بن كريم بن الحارث بن عمرو الباهلي قال سمعت أبي يذكر أنه سمع
أنه لقي رسول الله ﷺ في حجة الوداع وهو على ناقته العضباء فأتيته من أحد شقيه فقلت يا رسول الله بأبي أنت وأمي استغفر لي فقال غفر الله لكم ثم أتيته من الشق الآخر أرجو أن يخصني دونهم فقلت يا رسول الله استغفر لي فقال بيده غفر الله لكم فقال رجل من الناس يا رسول الله العتائر والفرائع قال من شاء عتر ومن شاء لم يعتر ومن شاء فرع ومن شاء لم يفرع في الغنم أضحيتها وقبض أصابعه إلا واحدة
Sourcing, [hasan] Tabarani reported it in al-Kabir 3/261, no. 3350, from the hadith of Yahya bin Zurara, and he is mastur (of unknown status), but a similarly mastur narrator corroborated him in Abu Dawud, no. 1742, and the hadith has supporting narrations. It is also in al-Kubra, no. 4552.
