The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every child is held in pledge by his aqiqah, which is to be slaughtered for him on the seventh day, when his head is shaved and he is given his name."
أخبرنا عمرو بن علي ومحمد بن عبد الأعلى قالا حدثنا يزيد وهو ابن زريع عن سعيد أنبأنا قتادة عن الحسن
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال كل غلام رهين بعقيقته تذبح عنه يوم سابعه ويحلق رأسه ويسمى
[Hasan]. Abu Dawud narrated it in Kitab al-Dahaya (The Book of Sacrifices), Chapter on Aqiqah, no. 2838, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, with this same chain, and it is also found in al-Kubra, no. 4546. Tirmidhi said, no. 1522, hasan sahih. The hadith has supporting narrations, among them the hadith that follows.
