The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came up to a camel, took a tuft of hair from its hump between his two fingers, and said, "I have no share of the spoils, not even this much, except for the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you."
أخبرنا عمرو بن يزيد قال حدثنا ابن أبي عدي قال حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن محمد بن إسحق
أن رسول الله ﷺ أتى بعيرا فأخذ من سنامه وبرة بين إصبعيه ثم قال إنه ليس لي من الفيء شيء ولا هذه إلا الخمس والخمس مردود فيكم
[Sahih] Narrated by Abu Dawud in the Book of Jihad, Chapter on Ransoming the Captive with Money, hadith no. 2694, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama with the same wording. Ibn Ishaq explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as found in Ibn Jarud, hadith no. 1080, and elsewhere, and its chain is hasan. It is also found in Aqd Tamam fi Takhrij Sirah Ibn Hisham, in my own edition, hadith no. 203. May Allah make its printing easy for us.
