Jubayr bin Mutim reported that he and Uthman bin Affan went together to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to speak with him about how he had distributed the fifth of the spoils from Hunayn between Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib bin Abd Manaf.They said, "Messenger of Allah, you have given a share to our brothers from Banu Muttalib bin Abd Manaf but gave us nothing, even though our kinship to you is the same as theirs."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied to them, "I regard Hashim and Muttalib as one and the same."Jubayr bin Mutim said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not allot anything from that fifth to Banu Abd Shams or to Banu Nawfal, as he had allotted to Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib."
أخبرنا عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن عبد الحكم قال حدثنا شعيب بن يحيى قال حدثنا نافع بن يزيد عن يونس بن يزيد عن ابن شهاب قال أخبرني سعيد بن المسيب أن
أنه جاء هو وعثمان بن عفان رسول الله ﷺ يكلمانه فيما قسم من خمس حنين بين بني هاشم وبني المطلب بن عبد مناف فقالا يا رسول الله قسمت لإخواننا بني المطلب بن عبد مناف ولم تعطنا شيئا وقرابتنا مثل قرابتهم فقال لهما رسول الله ﷺ إنما أرى هاشما والمطلب شيئا واحدا قال جبير بن مطعم ولم يقسم رسول الله ﷺ لبني عبد شمس ولا لبني نوفل من ذلك الخمس شيئا كما قسم لبني هاشم وبني المطلب
