Regarding the share designated for the close relatives, Ali was asked who it belonged to.He replied, "It is ours, by virtue of our kinship to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allotted it to them. Umar offered us something we considered to be less than our right, so we refused to accept it. What he offered them was that he would help the unmarried among them to marry, settle the debts of those in debt, and give to the poor among them, but he refused to give them more than that."
