Ali sent to the Prophet ﷺ, while he was in Yemen, a piece of gold still mixed with its earth. The Prophet ﷺ divided it among Aqra bin Habis al-Hanzali, of the tribe of Banu Mujash, Uyayna bin Badr al-Fazari, Alqama bin Ulatha al-Amiri, of the tribe of Banu Kilab, and Zayd al-Khayl al-Tai, of the tribe of Banu Nabhan.The Quraysh and the Ansar became angry and said, "He gives to the chiefs of the people of Najd and leaves us out."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I am only winning their hearts."Then a man with deep-set eyes, prominent cheekbones, a thick beard, and a shaved head approached and said, "Muhammad, fear Allah."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Who would obey Allah if I disobeyed Him? He entrusts me with the people of the earth, yet you do not trust me?"A man from the gathering asked permission to kill him, but the Prophet ﷺ forbade it. When the man had turned away, the Prophet ﷺ said, "From the offspring of this man will come a people who recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its prey. They will kill the people of Islam and spare the people of idols. If I were to live to see them, I would surely slaughter them as the people of Aad were slaughtered."
أخبرنا محمود بن غيلان قال حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال أنبأنا الثوري عن أبيه عن ابن أبي نعم
بعث علي إلى النبي ﷺ وهو باليمن بذهيبة في تربتها فقسمها بين الأقرع بن حابس الحنظلي ثم أحد بني مجاشع وبين عيينة بن بدر الفزاري وبين علقمة بن علاثة العامري ثم أحد بني كلاب وبين زيد الخيل الطائي ثم أحد بني نبهان قال فغضبت قريش والأنصار وقالوا يعطي صناديد أهل نجد ويدعنا فقال إنما أتألفهم فأقبل رجل غائر العينين ناتئ الوجنتين كث اللحية محلوق الرأس فقال يا محمد اتق الله قال من يطع الله إذا عصيته أيأمنني على أهل الأرض ولا تأمنوني فسأل رجل من القوم قتله فمنعه فلما ولى قال إن من ضئضئ هذا قوما يخرجون يقرءون القرآن لا يجاوز حناجرهم يمرقون من الدين مروق السهم من الرمية يقتلون أهل الإسلام ويدعون أهل الأوثان لئن أنا أدركتهم لأقتلنهم قتل عاد
