Grading, its chain is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Wills, in the chapter on the severity regarding consuming the property of orphans, hadith no. 2875, from the hadith of Muaz bin Hani through this route. It is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 3475. Hakim graded it sahih in 4:259, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has a daif corroborating narration in Bayhaqi.Yahya bin Abu Kathir transmitted it using the ambiguous "an" formula, without clarifying direct transmission.
