Regarding renting out land for dinars or silver coins, he said, "There is no harm in that. During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, people used to rent out land in exchange for what grew along the larger streams and at the heads of the small canals. So one portion would yield produce while another would fail, and another would yield while yet another perished. People had no other form of rental arrangement besides this, which is why it was forbidden. As for something known and guaranteed, there is no harm in it."Malik bin Anas agreed with him on the chain of transmission but differed with him on its wording.
أخبرني المغيرة بن عبد الرحمن قال حدثنا عيسى هو ابن يونس قال حدثنا الأوزاعي عن ربيعة بن أبي عبد الرحمن عن حنظلة بن قيس الأنصاري قال
عن كراء الأرض بالدينار والورق فقال لا بأس بذلك إنما كان الناس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ يؤاجرون على الماذيانات وأقبال الجداول فيسلم هذا ويهلك هذا ويسلم هذا ويهلك هذا فلم يكن للناس كراء إلا هذا فلذلك زجر عنه فأما شيء معلوم مضمون فلا بأس به وافقه مالك بن أنس على إسناده وخالفه في لفظه
