We used to engage in sharecropping during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He claimed that one of his uncles came to him and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden us from a practice that was beneficial to us, but obedience to Allah and His Messenger is more beneficial for us."We asked, "What was that?"He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever has land should cultivate it himself or let his brother cultivate it. He should not lease it out for a third, a quarter, or a specified amount of food.'"This was narrated by Hanzala bin Qays from Rafi, and there is a difference of opinion regarding its narration from Rabia.
