The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A vow does not bring to the son of Adam anything I have not already decreed for him, but it is a means by which something is extracted from the miserly."
أخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد بن عبد الرحمن قال حدثنا سفيان قال حدثنا أبو الزناد عن الأعرج
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال لا يأتي النذر على ابن آدم شيئا لم أقدره عليه ولكنه شيء استخرج به من البخيل
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Ahmad narrated it, 2/242, from Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this wording, and it is in Kubra, no. 4746. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Oaths, in the chapter on fulfilling vows, and the saying of Allah Most High, "They fulfill their vows", no. 6694, from the hadith of Abu Zinad, with this wording. It also has another route in Muslim, no. 1640/07.
