We used to sell goods at al-Baqi, and we were called samasirah (brokers). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "Company of merchants!" giving us a name better than the one we had been known by. Then he said, "This trade of yours is attended by swearing of oaths and lying, so mix it with charity."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن يزيد عن سفيان عن عبد الملك وعاصم وجامع عن أبي وائل
كنا نبيع بالبقيع فأتانا رسول الله ﷺ وكنا نسمى السماسرة فقال يا معشر التجار فسمانا باسم هو خير من اسمنا ثم قال إن هذا البيع يحضره الحلف والكذب فشوبوه بالصدقة
