The Prophet ﷺ came to visit me when I was ill in Mecca.I said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all of my wealth?"He said, "No."I said, "Then half?"He said, "No."I said, "Then a third?"He said, "A third, and a third is a lot. To leave your heirs wealthy is better than to leave them destitute, begging from people, stretching out their hands."
Bukhari narrated it in Wasaya, chapter "That a man should leave his heirs wealthy is better than that they should beg from people," Hadith 2742, from Abu Naeem, and Muslim in Wasiyyah, chapter "Bequeathing a third," Hadith 1628, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna in the same wording, and it is in Al-Kubra, Hadith 6454.
