Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Concerning Allah's words, "Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or its like" [Baqarah 2:106], and His words, "And when We substitute one verse for another, and Allah knows best what He sends down" [Nahl 16:101], and the rest of the verse, and His words, "Allah erases what He wills and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Mother of the Book" [Rad 13:39].The first thing in the Quran to be abrogated was the qibla.Allah also said, "Divorced women shall wait by themselves for three menstrual cycles, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs" up to His words, "if they desire reconciliation" [Baqarah 2:228]. This was because a man, when he divorced his wife, had the greater right to take her back, even if he had divorced her three times. That ruling was then abrogated, and Allah said, "Divorce is twice, then either retain her honorably or release her with kindness" [Baqarah 2:229].

عن ابن عباس

في قوله {ما ننسخ من آية أو ننسها نأت بخير منها أو مثلها} وقال {وإذا بدلنا آية مكان آية والله أعلم بما ينزل} الآية وقال {يمحو الله ما يشاء ويثبت وعنده أم الكتاب} فأول ما نسخ من القرآن القبلة وقال {والمطلقات يتربصن بأنفسهن ثلاثة قروء ولا يحل لهن أن يكتمن ما خلق الله في أرحامهن} إلى قوله {إن أرادوا إصلاحا} وذلك بأن الرجل كان إذا طلق امرأته فهو أحق برجعتها وإن طلقها ثلاثا فنسخ ذلك وقال {الطلاق مرتان فإمساك بمعروف أو تسريح بإحسان}
