"Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or like it" [Baqarah 2:106].And Allah said, "And when We substitute one verse in place of another, and Allah knows best what He sends down" [Nahl 16:101], and the rest of the verse. And He said, "Allah erases what He wills and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Mother of the Book" [Rad 13:39].The first thing abrogated in the Quran was the qibla. And He said, "Divorced women shall wait by themselves for three menstrual cycles" [Baqarah 2:228].And He said, "As for those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you are in doubt, their waiting period is three months" [Talaq 65:4].Part of this was then abrogated, for Allah Most High said, "If you divorce them before you have touched them, then no waiting period is required of them that you should count" [Ahzab 33:49].
