He said that the matter of mutual cursing was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Asim bin Adi made a statement about it, then he left. A man from his own people came to him complaining that he had found another man with his wife.Asim said, "I have only been tested with this because of what I said."So he took him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him about the man whom he had found with his wife. This husband was yellowish in complexion, lean of body, and had straight hair, while the man he accused of being with his wife was dark-skinned, heavyset, and full of flesh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, make it clear."She then gave birth to a child resembling the man whom her husband said he had found with her, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried out the mutual cursing between them.A man in the gathering asked Ibn Abbas, "Is this the woman about whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Had I stoned anyone without evidence, I would have stoned this one'?"Ibn Abbas replied, "No. That was a different woman, one who used to display indecency openly while professing Islam."
Muslim narrated it, Lian, no. 12/1497, from Isa bin Hammad. Bukhari narrated it, Talaq, chapter "The Prophet's ﷺ statement, 'If I were to stone anyone without evidence,'" no. 5310, from the hadith of Layth bin Saad, with the same wording. It is also in Al-Kubra, no. 5664.
