She related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spend time with Zaynab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her home. So Hafsa and I agreed that whichever of us the Prophet ﷺ came to would say to him, "I smell maghafir on you. Have you been eating maghafir?"He came in to one of them, and she said that to him.He replied, "No, but I drank honey at the home of Zaynab bint Jahsh, and I will never do it again."Then this was revealed, "Prophet, why do you forbid yourself what Allah has made lawful for you" [Tahrim 66:1]. And "If you two repent to Allah" [Tahrim 66:4] refers to Ayesha and Hafsa, while "And when the Prophet confided a matter to one of his wives" [Tahrim 66:3] refers to his saying, "Rather, I drank honey."
أخبرنا الحسن بن محمد الزعفراني قال حدثنا حجاج عن ابن جريج عن عطاء أنه سمع عبيد بن عمير يقول
تزعم أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يمكث عند زينب بنت جحش فيشرب عندها عسلا فتواصيت أنا وحفصة أن أيتنا دخل عليها النبي ﷺ فلتقل إني أجد منك ريح مغافير أكلت مغافير فدخل على إحداهما فقالت ذلك له فقال لا بل شربت عسلا عند زينب بنت جحش ولن أعود له فنزلت {يا أيها النبي لم تحرم ما أحل الله لك} {إن تتوبا إلى الله} لعائشة وحفصة {وإذ أسر النبي إلى بعض أزواجه حديثا} لقوله بل شربت عسلا
