Abdul-Rahman bin Awf came with traces of saffron on him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What is this?"He replied, "I have married a woman."The Prophet asked, "What dowry did you give her?"He said, "The weight of a date-stone in gold."The Prophet said, "Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a single sheep."

أن عبد الرحمن بن عوف جاء وعليه ردع من زعفران فقال رسول الله ﷺ مهيم قال تزوجت امرأة قال وما أصدقت قال وزن نواة من ذهب قال أولم ولو بشاة
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in the chapter on marriage, section on the small dowry, hadith 2109, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, with this same wording. It is also found in al-Kubra, hadith 5558, and it has other routes in Bukhari and Muslim and others besides them.Thabit is Banani.
