Jabir reported that he married a woman during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ met him and asked, "Have you gotten married, Jabir?"Jabir replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "A virgin or a previously married woman?"Jabir said, "A previously married woman."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why not a virgin, so you could play with her and she with you?"Jabir replied, "Messenger of Allah, I have sisters, and I feared that she would come between me and them."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then that is fine. A woman is married for her religion, her wealth, and her beauty. So choose the one of religion, may your hands be filled with dust."
Muslim narrated it in the chapter "The Recommendation of Marrying a Woman of Religious Commitment," in the Book of Suckling, no. 1466(54)(715), from the hadith of Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman, and it is in Al-Kubra, no. 5336.
