I got married, and I came to the Prophet ﷺ. He asked, "Have you gotten married, Jabir?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "A virgin or a previously married woman?"I said, "A previously married woman."He said, "Why not a virgin, so you could play with her and she could play with you?"
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Expenditures, chapter "A Woman Helping Her Husband With Regard to His Children," no. 5367, and Muslim in the Book of Suckling, chapter "The Desirability of Marrying a Virgin," no. 1466/56, both from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, with this same wording. It is also found in al-Kubra, no. 327. Amr here is Ibn Dinar.
