The Prophet ﷺ granted permission to the shepherds to throw the pebbles on one day and skip the next.
أخبرنا الحسين بن حريث ومحمد بن المثنى عن سفيان عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر عن أبيه
أن النبي ﷺ رخص للرعاة أن يرموا يوما ويدعوا يوما
Graded, its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud collected it in the Book of Rites, chapter on throwing pebbles at the jamarat, hadith 1976, and Tirmidhi, hadith 954, and others besides them, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, by this chain, and he stated clearly that he had heard it directly, and it is found in the Kubra, hadith 4074.
