Ayesha reported,

The Quraysh used to stand at Muzdalifa, and they called themselves the Hums, while the rest of the Arabs would stand at Arafah. Then Allah commanded His Prophet ﷺ to stand at Arafah and then depart from there. So Allah revealed, "Then depart from where the people depart" [Baqarah 2:199].

أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم قال أنبأنا أبو معاوية قال حدثنا هشام عن أبيه

عن عائشة قالت

كانت قريش تقف بالمزدلفة ويسمون الحمس وسائر العرب تقف بعرفة فأمر الله تبارك وتعالى نبيه ﷺ أن يقف بعرفة ثم يدفع منها فأنزل الله عز وجل {ثم أفيضوا من حيث أفاض الناس}
