When the Prophet ﷺ and his companions arrived in Mecca, the polytheists said, "The fever of Yathrib has weakened them, and they have suffered greatly from it."Allah informed His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of what they said, so he ordered his companions to jog briskly during the circumambulation and to walk between the two corners. The polytheists were standing near the Hijr, and when they saw this they said, "These men are stronger than such and such."
أخبرني محمد بن سليمان عن حماد بن زيد عن أيوب عن ابن جبير
لما قدم النبي ﷺ وأصحابه مكة قال المشركون وهنتهم حمى يثرب ولقوا منها شرا فأطلع الله نبيه عليه الصلاة والسلام على ذلك فأمر أصحابه أن يرملوا وأن يمشوا ما بين الركنين وكان المشركون من ناحية الحجر فقالوا لهؤلاء أجلد من كذا
Bukhari transmitted it in Hajj, chapter "How did running (raml) begin?", no. 1602, and Muslim in Hajj, chapter "The recommendation of touching the two Yemeni corners during tawaf, excluding the other two corners," no. 1266, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, through this route, and it is in Kubra, no. 3942.
