He entered the House along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who ordered Bilal to close the door. The House at that time stood on six pillars. He walked forward until he reached the space between the two pillars next to the door of the Kaabah, where he sat down, praised Allah, glorified Him, made supplication to Him, and asked His forgiveness. Then he stood up and went to the wall facing him at the back of the Kaabah, placed his face and cheek against it, praised Allah, glorified Him, made supplication to Him, and asked His forgiveness. Then he moved to each corner of the Kaabah, facing it with takbir, tahlil, tasbih, praise of Allah, supplication, and seeking forgiveness. Then he went out and prayed two rakahs facing the front of the Kaabah. When he finished, he said, "This is the qiblah, this is the qiblah."
أخبرنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم قال حدثنا يحيى قال حدثنا عبد الملك بن أبي سليمان قال حدثنا عطاء
أنه دخل هو ورسول الله ﷺ البيت فأمر بلالا فأجاف الباب والبيت إذ ذاك على ستة أعمدة فمضى حتى إذا كان بين الأسطوانتين اللتين تليان باب الكعبة جلس فحمد الله وأثنى عليه وسأله واستغفره ثم قام حتى أتى ما استقبل من دبر الكعبة فوضع وجهه وخده عليه وحمد الله وأثنى عليه وسأله واستغفره ثم انصرف إلى كل ركن من أركان الكعبة فاستقبله بالتكبير والتهليل والتسبيح والثناء على الله والمسألة والاستغفار ثم خرج فصلى ركعتين مستقبل وجه الكعبة ثم انصرف فقال هذه القبلة هذه القبلة
