I used to twist the garlands for the sacrificial animals of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with my own hands. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would garland them with his own hand and send them with my father. Yet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not refrain from anything that Allah had made lawful for him until the sacrificial animal was slaughtered.
Bukhari narrated it, Hajj, chapter on one who garlanded the sacrificial animals with his own hand, no. 1700, and Muslim, Hajj, chapter on the desirability of sending the sacrificial animal to the Sanctuary etc., no. 1321/132, from the hadith of Malik through this chain, and it is in Muwatta (Yahya): 1/340, 341, and Kubra, no. 3774.
