Abu Musa said, "I came back from Yemen while the Prophet ﷺ was encamped at Batha during his pilgrimage."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you entered the state of pilgrimage?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "How did you pronounce it?"I said, "I declared, 'Here I am, with an intention like the intention of the Prophet ﷺ.'"He said, "Then make the circuit of the Kaaba, walk between Safa and Marwa, and exit your state of consecration."So I did as he instructed, then I went to a woman who combed out my hair. After that, I began to give people this same legal opinion until the caliphate of Umar came.A man said to me, "Abu Musa, hold back a little with your legal opinions, for you do not know what the Commander of the Believers has newly introduced concerning the rites of pilgrimage since you last heard."Abu Musa announced, "People, whoever we have given a ruling to, let him wait, for the Commander of the Believers is coming to you. Follow his lead."Umar said, "If we take to the Book of Allah, it commands us to complete the rites in full. And if we take to the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, the Prophet ﷺ did not exit his state of consecration until the sacrificial animal reached its place of slaughter."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى قال حدثنا خالد قال حدثنا شعبة قال أخبرني قيس بن مسلم قال
قال أبو موسى أقبلت من اليمن والنبي ﷺ منيخ بالبطحاء حيث حج فقال أحججت قلت نعم قال كيف قلت قال قلت لبيك بإهلال كإهلال النبي ﷺ قال فطف بالبيت وبالصفا والمروة وأحل ففعلت ثم أتيت امرأة ففلت رأسي فجعلت أفتي الناس بذلك حتى كان في خلافة عمر فقال له رجل يا أبا موسى رويدك بعض فتياك فإنك لا تدري ما أحدث أمير المؤمنين في النسك بعدك قال أبو موسى يا أيها الناس من كنا أفتيناه فليتئد فإن أمير المؤمنين قادم عليكم فأتموا به وقال عمر إن نأخذ بكتاب الله فإنه يأمرنا بالتمام وإن نأخذ بسنة النبي ﷺ فإن النبي ﷺ لم يحل حتى بلغ الهدي محله
