Muawiya said to Ibn Abbas, "Did you know that I trimmed the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Marwa?"Ibn Abbas replied, "No."Ibn Abbas then remarked, "This is Muawiya forbidding people from tamattu, while the Prophet ﷺ himself performed tamattu."

Muslim narrated it in Hajj, chapter on cutting the hair short in Umrah, hadith 1246, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna with this chain, and it is also in al-Kubra, hadith 3717. Bukhari and Muslim also narrated it through another route from Tawus with this chain, as will come at number 2990.
