I was a Christian Bedouin, then I embraced Islam. I was eager for jihad, but I found that hajj and umrah were obligatory upon me. So I went to a man from my clan named Hurayim bin Abdullah and asked him about it.He said, "Combine the two, then slaughter whatever sacrificial animal is easily available."So I entered the state of ihram intending both. When I reached al-Udhayb, Salman bin Rabia and Zayd bin Sawhan met me while I was reciting the talbiyah for both. One of them said to the other, "This man has no more understanding than his camel."So I went to Umar and said, "Commander of the Believers, I embraced Islam and was eager for jihad, but I found that hajj and umrah were obligatory upon me. So I went to Hurayim bin Abdullah and said, 'My good man, I find that hajj and umrah are obligatory upon me.' He said, 'Combine the two, then slaughter whatever sacrificial animal is easily available.' So I entered ihram intending both. When we reached al-Udhayb, Salman bin Rabia and Zayd bin Sawhan met me, and one of them said to the other, 'This man has no more understanding than his camel.'"Umar said, "You have been guided to the sunnah of your Prophet ﷺ."
