A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what clothing a person in the state of ihram should wear. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Do not wear shirts, turbans, trousers, hooded cloaks, or leather socks, except for someone who cannot find sandals, in which case he may wear leather socks but should cut them below the ankles. And do not wear anything touched by saffron or wars dye."
أخبرنا قتيبة عن مالك عن نافع
أن رجلا سأل رسول الله ﷺ ما يلبس المحرم من الثياب فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا تلبسوا القمص ولا العمائم ولا السراويلات ولا البرانس ولا الخفاف إلا أحد لا يجد نعلين فليلبس خفين وليقطعهما أسفل من الكعبين ولا تلبسوا شيئا مسه الزعفران ولا الورس
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Hajj, Chapter on What the Muharram May Not Wear of Clothing, hadith no. 1542, and Muslim, etc., hadith no. 1177, from the Book of Hajj, Chapter on What is Permissible for the Muharram to Wear in Hajj or Umrah and What is Not Permissible, from Malik, and it is in the Muwatta (Yahya), 1/324, 325, and in the Kubra, hadith no. 3649.
