The Prophet ﷺ designated Dhu al-Hulayfah as the place from which the people of Madinah enter the state of ihram, al-Juhfah for the people of Syria, Yalamlam for the people of Yemen, and Qarn for the people of Najd. These are the appointed stations for the people of those regions and for anyone passing through them from elsewhere who intends to perform Hajj or Umrah. Whoever lives closer to Makkah than these stations enters ihram from where he is, even the people of Makkah, who enter ihram from within the city itself.
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا حماد عن عمرو عن طاوس
أن النبي ﷺ وقت لأهل المدينة ذا الحليفة ولأهل الشام الجحفة ولأهل اليمن يلملم ولأهل نجد قرنا فهن لهم ولمن أتى عليهن من غير أهلهن ممن كان يريد الحج والعمرة فمن كان دونهن فمن أهله حتى أن أهل مكة يهلون منها
Muslim reported it in the book of Hajj, chapter on the appointed times for Hajj and Umrah, hadith no. 1181, from Qutayba, and Bukhari reported it in the book of Hajj, chapter on the entry into ihram for the people of Syria, hadith no. 1526, through the hadith of Amr bin Dinar, with this same wording.
