The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever begs while he has what suffices him will come on the Day of Resurrection with scratches or lacerations on his face."It was asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is the amount that suffices him?" Or, "What makes him sufficient?"He replied, "Fifty dirhams, or its equivalent in gold."Yahya said, Sufyan said, I also heard Zubayd narrate it from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid.
أخبرنا أحمد بن سليمان قال حدثنا يحيى بن آدم قال حدثنا سفيان الثوري عن حكيم بن جبير عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد عن أبيه
قال رسول الله ﷺ من سأل وله ما يغنيه جاءت خموشا أو كدوحا في وجهه يوم القيامة قيل يا رسول الله وماذا يغنيه أو ماذا أغناه قال خمسون درهما أو حسابها من الذهب قال يحيى قال سفيان وسمعت زبيدا يحدث عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد
[Its isnad is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Zakat, chapter "Who Should Be Given Charity, and the Threshold of Self-Sufficiency," hadith no. 1626, and Ibn Majah narrated it, hadith no. 1840, from the hadith of Yahya bin Adam with the same wording. Tirmidhi graded it hasan (2/19, hadith no. 650, in Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi), and it also appears in Sunan al-Kubra, hadith no. 2373. Hakeem is daif, as Nasai and others have said. Thawri engaged in a strange concealment in his narration, for he reported it from Zubayd, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid, with the chain cut off short of the Prophet or missing a link in it, and he did not extend it any further than that.
