A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him for something, and he gave it to him. As the man placed his foot on the threshold to leave, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you only knew what begging truly entails, no one would walk to another to ask him for anything."
أخبرنا محمد بن عثمان بن أبي صفوان الثقفي قال حدثنا أمية بن خالد قال حدثنا شعبة عن بسطام بن مسلم عن عبد الله بن خليفة
أن رجلا أتى النبي ﷺ فسأله فأعطاه فلما وضع رجله على أسكفة الباب قال رسول الله ﷺ لو تعلمون ما في المسألة ما مشى أحد إلى أحد يسأله شيئا

[Hasan] Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in al-Ahad wal-Mathani, 2/328, 329, no. 1094, from the hadith of Umaya Khalid through him, and it is also in al-Kubra, no. 2367. Abdullah bin Khalifa, also said to be Khalifa bin Abdullah al-Anbari, as in the narration of Rawh bin Ubada found in Ahmad, 5/65. Ibn Hibban alone rated him trustworthy, 4/310. The hadith has corroborating narrations that support its meaning.
