The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Do you have any wealth besides him?"He replied, "No."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will buy him from me?"Naeem bin Abdullah al-Adawi bought him for eight hundred dirhams. He brought the money to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who handed it over to the man and said, "Begin with yourself and spend it on yourself. If anything is left over, then on your family. If anything is left over from your family, then on your relatives. If anything is left over from your relatives, then in this way and that way," gesturing in front of him, to his right, and to his left.
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا الليث عن أبي الزبير عن جابر قال أعتق رجل من بني عذرة عبدا له
ذلك رسول الله ﷺ فقال ألك مال غيره قال لا فقال رسول الله ﷺ من يشتريه مني فاشتراه نعيم بن عبد الله العدوي بثمان مائة درهم فجاء بها رسول الله ﷺ فدفعها إليه ثم قال ابدأ بنفسك فتصدق عليها فإن فضل شيء فلأهلك فإن فضل شيء عن أهلك فلذي قرابتك فإن فضل عن ذي قرابتك شيء فهكذا وهكذا يقول بين يديك وعن يمينك وعن شمالك
