The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best charity is that given out of surplus wealth, and begin with those whom you support."
أخبرنا عمرو بن سواد بن الأسود بن عمرو عن ابن وهب قال أنبأنا يونس عن ابن شهاب قال حدثنا سعيد بن المسيب أنه سمع
رسول الله ﷺ خير الصدقة ما كان عن ظهر غنى وابدأ بمن تعول
Bukhari related it in the Book of Zakat, Chapter: "There Is No Charity Except from Surplus Wealth," hadith no. 1426, from the hadith of Yunus bin Yazid, with this wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 2324.
