Umar said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the collection of zakat. It was said that Ibn Jameel, Khalid bin Walid, and Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib had refused to give it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ibn Jameel resents nothing except that he was once poor and Allah enriched him. As for Khalid bin Walid, you are being unjust to Khalid, for he has dedicated his coats of mail and his weapons for the cause of Allah. As for Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, its payment is owed by him along with the like of it as well."
أخبرني عمران بن بكار قال حدثنا علي بن عياش قال حدثنا شعيب قال حدثني أبو الزناد مما حدثه عبد الرحمن الأعرج مما ذكر أنه سمع
وقال عمر أمر رسول الله ﷺ بصدقة فقيل منع ابن جميل وخالد بن الوليد وعباس بن عبد المطلب فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما ينقم ابن جميل إلا أنه كان فقيرا فأغناه الله وأما خالد بن الوليد فإنكم تظلمون خالدا قد احتبس أدراعه وأعتده في سبيل الله وأما العباس بن عبد المطلب عم رسول الله ﷺ فهي عليه صدقة ومثلها معها
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Zakat, in the section "The saying of Allah Most High, 'and for freeing captives and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah'," hadith no. 1468, from the hadith of Shuayb bin Abu Hamza. Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Zakat, in the section "On advancing zakat and withholding it," hadith no. 11/983, from the hadith of Abu Zinad, with the same wording, and it is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 2243.Ibn Khuzayma also narrated it, hadith no. 2330, from the hadith of Ali bin Ayyash, with the same wording, using Muslim's phrasing, "As for Abbas, it is due from him, and its equivalent along with it."
