Muslim bin Thafana reported,

Ibn Alqama appointed my father as the chief over his people and instructed him to collect their charity. My father sent me to a group of them to bring back their charity, so I set out and came upon an elderly man called Saar.I said to him, "My father has sent me to you so that you may pay the charity due on your sheep."He said, "My nephew, in what manner do you take it?"I replied, "We pick and choose, even feeling the udders of the sheep."He said, "My nephew, let me tell you something. I was once in one of these mountain passes during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tending my sheep, when two men came to me on a camel and said, 'We are the messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to you so that you may pay the charity due on your sheep.'I asked, 'What do I owe on them?'They said, 'One ewe.'So I went to a ewe whose place I knew, full of milk and fat, and brought her out to them. They said, 'This is a shafi,' and the shafi is a pregnant ewe, 'and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden us from taking a pregnant one.'So I went to a young she-goat that was a mutat, and the mutat is one that has not yet given birth but whose time of delivery has come, and I brought her out to them.They said, 'Hand her to us.'So I lifted her up to them, and they placed her with them on their camel and departed."

أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن المبارك قال حدثنا وكيع قال حدثنا زكريا بن إسحق عن عمرو بن أبي سفيان

عن مسلم بن ثفنة قال

استعمل ابن علقمة أبي على عرافة قومه وأمره أن يصدقهم فبعثني أبي إلى طائفة منهم لآتيه بصدقتهم فخرجت حتى أتيت على شيخ كبير يقال له سعر فقلت إن أبي بعثني إليك لتؤدي صدقة غنمك قال ابن أخي وأي نحو تأخذون قلت نختار حتى إنا لنشبر ضروع الغنم قال ابن أخي فإني أحدثك أني كنت في شعب من هذه الشعاب على عهد رسول الله ﷺ في غنم لي فجاءني رجلان على بعير فقالا إنا رسولا رسول الله ﷺ إليك لتؤدي صدقة غنمك قال قلت وما علي فيها قالا شاة فأعمد إلى شاة قد عرفت مكانها ممتلئة محضا وشحما فأخرجتها إليهما فقال هذه الشافع والشافع الحائل وقد نهانا رسول الله ﷺ أن نأخذ شافعا قال فأعمد إلى عناق معتاط والمعتاط التي لم تلد ولدا وقد حان ولادها فأخرجتها إليهما فقالا ناولناها فرفعتها إليهما فجعلاها معهما على بعيرهما ثم انطلقا
