I said, "Prophet of Allah, I did not come to you until I had sworn more times than the number of these fingers of his," and he gestured to the fingers of his hands, "that I would never come to you nor accept your religion. I was a man who understood nothing except what Allah and His Messenger taught me. I ask you, by the revelation of Allah, with what did your Lord send you to us?"He said, "With Islam."I asked, "What are the signs of Islam?"He said, "That you say, 'I have submitted my face to Allah,' and that you devote yourself purely to Him, and that you establish the prayer and give the zakat."
[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Ibn Majah collected it in the Book of Legal Punishments, Chapter on One Who Apostatizes from His Religion, hadith no. 2536, through the narration of Bahz bin Hakeem bin Muawiya bin Hayda Qushayri, and it is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 2216.
