I said, "Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who braids her hair tightly. Should I undo it when I perform the ritual bath after sexual impurity?"He replied, "It is enough for you to pour three handfuls of water over your head, then pour water over the rest of your body."

قلت يا رسول الله إني امرأة أشد ضفر رأسي أفأنقضها عند غسلها من الجنابة قال إنما يكفيك أن تحثي على رأسك ثلاث حثيات من ماء ثم تفيضين على جسدك
Reported by Muslim, Menstruation, chapter on the ruling regarding the braids of a woman performing ghusl, hadith no. 330, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna via this same chain, and it is also in al-Kubra, hadith no. 243.
