The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not begin the month of fasting until you complete the count of thirty days or sight the new crescent. Then fast, and do not break your fast until you sight the new crescent or complete the count of thirty days."Hajjaj bin Artah narrated it as a mursal report.
أخبرنا محمد بن بشار قال حدثنا عبد الرحمن قال حدثنا سفيان عن منصور عن ربعي
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا تقدموا الشهر حتى تكملوا العدة أو تروا الهلال ثم صوموا ولا تفطروا حتى تروا الهلال أو تكملوا العدة ثلاثين أرسله الحجاج بن أرطاة
