The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not anticipate the month until you sight the crescent before it or complete the count, then fast until you sight the crescent or complete the count before it."
أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم قال أنبأنا جرير عن منصور عن ربعي بن حراش
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال لا تقدموا الشهر حتى تروا الهلال قبله أو تكملوا العدة ثم صوموا حتى تروا الهلال أو تكملوا العدة قبله
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud transmitted it in the Book of Fasting, chapter on when the month is obscured, no. 2326, from the hadith of Jareer bin Abdul-Hameed Dabbi with this chain, and it is also in Al-Kubra, no. 2436. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 1911, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 875 [
