The Prophet ﷺ stood at the well of Badr and said, "Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" He then said, "They can hear what I am saying to them right now."When this was mentioned to Ayesha, she said, "Ibn Umar was mistaken. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only said, 'They now know that what I used to tell them is the truth.'"Then she recited the verse "Indeed, you cannot make the dead hear" [Naml 27:80] until she completed the verse.
Bukhari reported it in "the book of military expeditions, chapter on the killing of Abu Jahl," hadith 3980, from the hadith of Abdah bin Sulayman. Muslim reported it in "the book of funerals, chapter on the deceased being punished by the weeping of his family over him," hadith 932, from the hadith of Hisham bin Urwa, with the same wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith 2203.
