Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you dies, his place is shown to him morning and evening. If he is among the people of Paradise, then from the people of Paradise, and if he is among the people of the Fire, then from the people of the Fire. He is told, 'This is your place until Allah عز وجل resurrects you on the Day of Resurrection.'"

أخبرنا محمد بن سلمة والحارث بن مسكين قراءة عليه وأنا أسمع واللفظ له عن ابن القاسم حدثني مالك عن نافع

عن ابن عمر

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا مات أحدكم عرض على مقعده بالغداة والعشي إن كان من أهل الجنة فمن أهل الجنة وإن كان من أهل النار فمن أهل النار فيقال هذا مقعدك حتى يبعثك الله عز وجل يوم القيامة

Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals, Chapter "The dead person is shown his place morning and evening," etc., hadith no. 1379, and Muslim in the Book of Paradise and Its Blessings, Chapter "Showing the dead person his place in Paradise or Hellfire," hadith no. 2866, from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is found in the Muwatta (Yahya's version), 1/239, and in al-Kubra, hadith no. 2199.
