The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was shrouded in three white Yemeni cotton garments, with no shirt or turban among them. When Ayesha was told that some people claimed he was shrouded in two garments and a striped Yemeni cloak, she replied, "The cloak was indeed brought, but they returned it and did not shroud him in it."
Muslim reported it in Janaiz, chapter on shrouding the deceased, 46/941, from the hadith of Hafs bin Ghiyath. Bukhari, see the previous hadith, from the hadith of Hisham, with the same wording. It is also in Kubra, hadith 2026.
