The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us when his daughter passed away and said, "Wash her three times, or five, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lote leaves, and put camphor, or a little camphor, in the final washing. When you are finished, let me know."When we finished, we informed him, and he handed us his waist-wrapper and said, "Place this against her body."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on washing the deceased, hadith no. 939/38, from Qutayba. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on washing the deceased and performing ablution for him with water and lote-tree leaves, hadith no. 1253, from the hadith of Malik with this wording. It is also found in Muwatta (Yahya's recension), 1/222, and in Kubra, hadith no. 2008.
