The Prophet ﷺ, whenever he went to relieve himself, would go far away. He went to relieve himself while on one of his journeys, then said, "Bring me water for ablution." So I brought him water for ablution, and he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.The Shaykh said, Ismail is Ibn Jafar bin Abu Kathir, the reciter.

Sahih. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on Relieving Oneself When Answering the Call of Nature, hadith (1), from the hadith of Muhammad bin Amr, and Ibn Majah, hadith (331) (see the previous hadith, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ulaya, from Muhammad bin Amr, with the same wording).Tirmidhi said, hadith (20), "hasan sahih." Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, 1/184, and Hakim, 1/140, according to the criteria of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Hadith (50). Baghawi, in Sharh al-Sunnah, 1/373, said its chain is hasan.It is also found in Kubra, hadith (16), and it has another route in Ahmad, 4/244, 249, 450, and elsewhere. Nawawi graded it sahih in Majmu.
