My father, Talq bin Ali, visited us one day during Ramadan. He spent the evening with us, led us in the night prayer, and prayed witr with us. Then he went down to a mosque and led his companions in prayer until only the witr remained. He brought forward a man and said to him, "Lead them in witr, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There are no two witrs in one night.'"
أخبرنا هناد بن السري عن ملازم بن عمرو قال حدثني عبد الله بن بدر
زارنا أبي طلق بن علي في يوم من رمضان فأمسى بنا وقام بنا تلك الليلة وأوتر بنا ثم انحدر إلى مسجد فصلى بأصحابه حتى بقي الوتر ثم قدم رجلا فقال له أوتر بهم فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا وتران في ليلة
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Tirmidhi narrated it, in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on "There are not two witr prayers in one night," hadith no. 470, and it is also in al-Kubra, hadith no. 1388. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih through the same route, and he said, "hasan gharib." It is also in al-Kubra, hadith no. 1388, narrated from Hannad, 110, and Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 671. Hafiz graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari, 2/481.
