The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one who recites the Quran aloud is like the one who gives charity openly, and the one who recites the Quran quietly is like the one who gives charity in secret."

[Hasan] Reported by Abu Dawud, Prayer, chapter on raising the voice in recitation during night prayer, no. 1333, and Tirmidhi, Virtues of the Quran, chapter on whoever recites the Quran should ask Allah by it, ..., no. 2919, from the hadith of Kathir, with this wording. It is also found in al-Kubra, no. 1374. Tirmidhi said, "hasan gharib," and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 658, 1791. The hadith has many corroborating narrations, and it will come again at no. 2562.
