Two festivals fell on the same day during the time of Ibn Zubayr, so he delayed going out until the day was well advanced. Then he came out and delivered a long sermon, after which he descended and prayed. He did not lead the people in the Jumuah prayer that day. This was mentioned to Ibn Abbas, who said, "He followed the Sunnah."

Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Khuzayma narrated it, no. 1465, from the hadith of Yahya Qattan, and Ibn Abu Shayba, 2/186, from the hadith of Abdul-Hameed, with the same wording, and it is in Kubra, no. 1794. Hakim graded it sahih, 1/296, according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has supporting narrations in Abu Dawud, no. 1071, 1072, and elsewhere.
