A man entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the sermon. He faced the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while standing and said, "Messenger of Allah, our wealth has perished and the roads have been cut off. Pray to Allah to send us rain."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and said, "O Allah, send us rain. O Allah, send us rain."Anas said, "By Allah, we could not see a single cloud or even a wisp in the sky, and there was no house or building between us and Sal mountain."Then a cloud appeared like a shield, and when it reached the middle of the sky, it spread out and poured down rain.Anas said, "By Allah, we did not see the sun for a week."Then on the following Friday, a man entered through that same door while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the sermon. He faced him while standing and said, "Messenger of Allah, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon you, our wealth has perished and the roads have been cut off. Pray to Allah to hold it back from us."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and said, "O Allah, around us and not upon us. O Allah, upon the hills, the small mountains, the valley beds, and the places where trees grow."Anas said, "The rain stopped, and we went out walking in the sunshine."Sharik said, "I asked Anas, 'Was this the same man as the first?'"Anas replied, "No."
أخبرنا علي بن حجر قال حدثنا إسمعيل بن جعفر قال حدثنا شريك بن عبد الله
أن رجلا دخل المسجد ورسول الله ﷺ قائم يخطب فاستقبل رسول الله ﷺ قائما وقال يا رسول الله هلكت الأموال وانقطعت السبل فادع الله أن يغيثنا فرفع رسول الله ﷺ يديه ثم قال اللهم أغثنا اللهم أغثنا قال أنس ولا والله ما نرى في السماء من سحابة ولا قزعة وما بيننا وبين سلع من بيت ولا دار فطلعت سحابة مثل الترس فلما توسطت السماء انتشرت وأمطرت قال أنس ولا والله ما رأينا الشمس سبتا قال ثم دخل رجل من ذلك الباب في الجمعة المقبلة ورسول الله ﷺ قائم يخطب فاستقبله قائما فقال يا رسول الله صلى الله وسلم عليك هلكت الأموال وانقطعت السبل فادع الله أن يمسكها عنا فرفع رسول الله ﷺ يديه فقال اللهم حوالينا ولا علينا اللهم على الآكام والظراب وبطون الأودية ومنابت الشجر قال فأقلعت وخرجنا نمشي في الشمس قال شريك سألت أنسا أهو الرجل الأول قال لا
Muslim recorded it in the Book of the Prayer for Rain, in the chapter on the supplication during the prayer for rain, hadith no. 897, from Ali bin Hajar. Bukhari recorded it in the Book of the Prayer for Rain, in the chapter on praying for rain during the Friday sermon without facing the qibla, hadith no. 1014, from the hadith of Ismail bin Jafar, through this same chain. It is also found in Sunan al-Kubra, hadith no. 1824.
